Free Optimization For Your Web Site

So you have your web site up and running and everyone is telling you to get it optimized. You say to yourself, "How the heck do I optimize my web site?"
Well, I´ll tell you a few different ways you can go about doing that. Some will cost you A LOT of money and some won´t. Being that you just got your site up and running, I´m willing to bet your budget for "optimization" isn´t too big. That´s where the free optimization comes in.
Of course there are people who will gladly take your money to optimize your site. But really if you have some spare time and are low on cash, there are plenty of ways to optimize your site that won´t cost you a dime!
First, lets define optimization. In the form of search engine optimization (SEO), Wikipedia defines it as, "the process of improving the volume or quality of traffic to a web site from search engines".
In order to improve the volume or quality of traffic to your web site, you first need to think about who comes to your site and why. What words would they need to type into Google to find your site?
The words that are typed into a search engine are called keywords. Google has created a free tool called the Keyword Tool. This tool allows you to enter in what you think people will type into the search engines to find your site. This should be your first form of free optimization that you do.
It will return results as to how many people typed those keywords in the previous month and will also provide you results for similar keywords. From that, you can see other keywords or phrases people are typing in to try and find a business or product like yours.
You say, "OK, I get the keyword tool, but what am I supposed to do with these keywords?"
Good question. You want to find the keyword or keyword phrase that´s closely related to your business or product and has the most searches with the least amount of competition.
This will give you more exposure to higher traffic and less competition.
Next, you want to pepper that keyword or keyword phrase throughout one of your pages (preferably your sales page where they can order). BUT... one big BUT... don´t over do it. If you use this keyword too much, the search engines will drop your site in rankings because they think you´re trying to pull one over on them.
So, be careful with the amount of times you use. A good amount is about once for every 100 words on your page. So, if you have 300 words on your page you shouldn´t use your keyword more than three times.
If you do this right it will be the biggest form of free optimization that you could ever do.
